Eat, Read, Love

Westlake Center – Friday, October 1 @ Noon – Join the Friends of the Seattle Public Library at Westlake Center for a spontaneous group read flash mob!  The idea is for Seattleites to demonstrate their love for our books and our libraries.  At exactly 12:00 PM, we’ll be pulling out our books and sitting down on the spot to read.   The more people who show up and read, the greater the impact. Bring your friends and your favorite book, and show your support!

Behind the Scenes…

An inside look at the filming of a public service announcement for the Seattle Public Library.

Books! Reading! Free Community Resources! Did I mention Books? Like I said, this is a campaign I was pleased to be requested for, and proud to be a part of.

I really do think it’s so important for people to know how many resources their public libraries have… at tax time, I’m there to get my forms. Being unemployed this year, I went to the library for forms and seminars, information about job fairs, and I leafed through countless books about sprucing up my resume.

Summer Reading Wrap-Up

All summer the Friends have been blogging about the Summer Reading Program at Seattle Public Library.  It’s September, and Summer Reading is over for another year.  Let’s see how we did:

Summer Reading Participant Goal:  12,858

Summer Reading Participant Total:  12,214

Goal for Books Read:  148,008

Actual Books Read:  159,702

Total Child Books Read:  140,048  (a new record!)

Total Teen Books Read:  6,356  (also a record!)

Although we missed our goal for participants just slightly, those participants outdid themselves in reading books!  Congratulations, participants, for making this Summer Reading year great!
